11/18/2023 0 Comments 2007 saturn vue redlineSorry about the late response, college/work occupies 95% of my time Either way I'll have to go to my friendly dealership that programs remotes for free. She was supposed to return my call yesterday but never did so I might just call and ask what the return policy is and give it a try.īasically, they have me give the mileage and VIN, so I'm guessing they program it and when I get the unit, I'll either have to do a 30 minute relearn or I won't. I asked her why they didn't have a 2003 and which one I should use (I said probably a 2002 because that's more similar to a 2003 than a 2004) and she really couldn't give me any info on that. The reason the lady wasn't helpful is that the site only lists a 20 BCM. I recharged my A/C and that is 100x better now, and the last issue I have with the vehicle is that my alarm doesn't work and keyless entry is moody. I'm looking on keeping the VUE at least another year so I'm not really looking for a dealership price replacement, I was thinking if this piece is $160, perhaps I can swap it out and get my alarm and remotes working properly for the last year or so of ownership. Without GM, programming remotes cannot be done but someone having access to a Tech II may be able to do this as its more or less a simple feature. Used bcm's from many places seem to work just as well when matching options and accepting the retained mileage. ![]() Third party sources without a direct GM backing are just that, third party. While dealer service is pricey, new bcm replacement comes with a warranty as GM is standing behind their product. If you cannot have a written guarantee that a bcm will operate right out of the box. No one here has ever said if a Tech II needs networking support to make major changes like programming a new bcm. Proprietary software and IT people tend to keep their systems from falling into any fish and bait shop to circumvent firmware in unscrupulous hands. While there may be used ones on ebay, no one can say whether these units have all the software support and/or necessary network tie-in to have the information for up to date use. There may be newer equipment as necessary to keep up with changes. GM's Tech II is an expensive tool, with all the upgrades to use throughout the GM model line, its been said that $50k is the cost for dealer loyalty for everything needed to service any GM model. ![]() New bcm's, only from GM, are programmed by GM using their proprietary Tech II equipment to program options, mileage, and remotes as well as marry the bcm in 10 minutes instead of us pedestrians using the 30 minute procedure. Used bcm's retains mileage and cannot be changed. The only changes to be made would be for GM (unless a shop has the same Tech II) to program the remotes to use the original remotes. Used bcm's, to my knowledge and as posted from others here, have shown that none were re-programmed by any third party entities. To use another bcm requires a 30 minute relearn procedure to 'marry' the new part to the rest of the electronics. Passlock is GM's theft deterrent system that lets each module talk to each other and complicates plug n' play procedures. ![]() A search around here will give you as much info about EFI systems and GM's theft deterrent systems that are embedded in the main modules ecm, pcm, bcm, and tcm. If you don't mind a somewhat sceptical opinion, the fact that the person you talked to couldn't help you or at least redirect your conversation to someone more helpful is already a sign of foreboding.īody control modules are more or less plug n' play as long as you're informed about the peculiarities.
